Visual Networks Opens European Headquarters To Meet Growing Market Demand

United Kingdom Office Enables Company to Expand European Distribution Capabilities For Its Network and Application Performance Management Solutions

ROCKVILLE, MD and AMERSHAM, UNITED KINGDOM (October 21, 2004) - Visual Networks Inc.© (NASDAQ: VNWK), a leading provider of network and application performance management solutions, today announced the opening of its new European headquarters. Located outside London in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, the office serves Visual Networks' current and prospective partners and enterprise customers throughout Europe.

The company's European operations are headed by Colin Murray, vice president, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Mr. Murray has nearly twenty years' industry experience in sales, marketing and management for companies such as CSC, LHS and Digiquant.

"While we have been doing business for a number of years in Europe with distribution partners such as AT&T International and Equant, establishing a European headquarters is a significant milestone," said Larry Barker, president and CEO of Visual Networks. "We are now in a better position to capitalize on a growing market opportunity in Europe for our core network and application performance management solutions. Visual Networks is committed to developing, marketing, selling and supporting leading-edge technologies that support the European market."

"Establishing a European headquarters positions us closer to the issues facing our existing customers and enables us to more readily identify new market opportunities," said Colin Murray, vice president, EMEA of Visual Networks. "We have a wide range of existing solutions, such as our recently released E1 Analysis Service Element (ASE), that can meet the market's growing network management needs."

The company will be distributing and supporting its Visual UpTime SelectT and Visual IP InsightT solutions in Europe. Visual UpTime Select is a modular network management solution that delivers in-depth, real-time and historical visibility into the performance and availability of critical applications. Visual IP InSight is an IP service management system designed to help service providers manage IP connectivity and accessibility for consumers to IP network services.

"We believe effective network management is increasingly important in growth markets such as Europe," said Johna Till Johnson, president & chief research officer at Nemertes Research. "IT executives, particularly those who operate global and multinational networks, tell us that effective infrastructure management is critical. Over 80% of participants in a recent benchmark said that reporting capabilities for their IP infrastructure are 'important or critical', and 58% tell us that the ability to track conformance with service level agreements (SLAs) is vital or very important."
